history

2005–2009: The beginnings

Nachtblut was launched by Askeroth on November 13, 2005 to highlight social grievances in society. After conceiving a number of texts, he went looking for like-minded members, whom he found over the course of a year. Nachtblut played the first concerts in northern Germany.

On June 23, 2007 they released their first self-produced studio album Das Erste Abendmahl and immediately afterwards won a competition on Rockhard.de as the opening act for the dark metal band Eisregen . The first international concerts in Austria's capital Vienna followed, as well as some appearances as support act for big names in the scene such as Immortal , Sodom and Watain . The band took part in the Hellflame Festivals in Osnabrück and Lichtenfels , as well as in the Devils Revenge Festival in Schwerte . On January 30th, 2009 the band released the second studio album Antik , which was also produced in-house and was co-produced by Ingo Hampf, the guitarist of the folk metal band Subway to Sally . On January 17th, 2009 the band started their antique tour , two of which took place in Austria and one in Switzerland. It ended on September 6, 2009.

Since 2011: Contract with Napalm Records and Dogma

In February 2011 the band signed a recording contract with the Austrian label Napalm Records and on September 30, 2011 re-released the album Antik . The new release was a limited edition. Among others, EMP and Amazon distribute the album in Germany. This limited edition contains the 10 tracks from the album, as well as a Greek version of the title Gedenket der Toten , as well as the songs Alles nur stolen , Ketzer and Never asked , some of which are already featured on the debut album.

During the Dogma tour in 2012, bassist Sacerdos left the band for professional reasons, and Trym joined the band.

On October 1st, 2011, Nachtblut played at the Night Warriors Festival in Ried, Austria . Heidevolk and Grailknights were confirmed as headliners . Also Vroudenspil and Mambo Kurt occurred there.

Nachtblut is featured with her song Antik on the sampler Maximum Metal Vol. 176 of the Metal-Hammer- Magazin. The band has also been interviewed at Zillo , Sonic Seducer and Orkus .

The release date of the third studio album Dogma was in Germany on May 25, 2012, it was distributed throughout Europe, the United States and Canada . In addition, the band released a new music video for the song "Ich trinke Blut".

In 2013 the band played at the Wacken Open Air . In 2014 they released their fourth album Chimonas . In 2015 it was announced that Lymania would leave the band.

In 2016 the bassist Trym left the band and was replaced by AblaZ , who is known as the bassist for the band Stahlmann .

After the release of their fifth album Apostasy , which reached number 41 in the German album charts, Nachtblut played their first China tour in addition to an extensive tour of Germany.

Music style and lyrics

The often blasphemous or misanthropic acting lyrics of the band often describe when listening very carefully societal ills ( inspection , Des little heart last shock , horror choir ), or anti-Christian ( crusaders , heretics ) or anti-Islamist topics ( Holy War , Man's Art blindness to sow ). The text The Blood Countess is about the Hungarian Countess Erzsébet Báthory , who allegedly had girls brought to her castle at the beginning of the 17th century and tortured them to death there. Other real historical, but also mythological stories are topics of the texts ( Remembrance of the dead , witch ; fall of Icarus and Job's message ).

Askeroth said:

“Nachtblut is a middle finger project, primarily I deal with social problems in my texts. And we do this in a way that anyone who cannot identify with it should feel attacked. I want to claim that anyone who cannot identify with the core message of the lyrics belongs to the kind of person who is allowed to feel addressed by the respective lyrics. But the truth is unfortunately that only a few people deal with song lyrics, today more attention is paid to the image or the hardness of the music. "

In The Little Heart's Last Beat , the legal system in Germany is criticized:

“When the sun went down
the sound of the heart she devoured.
She bleeded pretty badly.
Yes, I raped her!
I will strive for new hearts.
To slaughter each and every one.
It wouldn't be bad if they catch me.
I'll be released early anyway ”

- Night blood : the last beat of the little heart

The song Holy War is about Nicholas Berg , who was executed by Islamist extremists in May 2004.

“Finally your eyes are covered
then you know what dying tastes like
And your throat freezes, then you pray
Because of the ice-cold machete.
Scratching, biting, it penetrates
your flesh, into your bones.
Cowardly and coarse, not very noble,
it then also loosens the skull "

- Night Blood : Holy War

The band plays melodic dark metal, with some pieces reminiscent of Rammstein in their playing style . Metalglory describes the vocals as a mixture of Michael Roth and Dani Filth . In their performances and in their music video for the song Antik , the musicians use corpsepaint , which is mainly used by musicians in the Black Metal scene.
