Natural stage stone dales
The natural stage Steintäle is an open-air stage in Fridingen an der Donau . The stage, which has been used since 1963, is located in a narrow dry valley in the Upper Danube Nature Park and is largely natural.
history
The stage was largely initiated by the Fridingen artist Hans Bucher in the early 1960s. After theater had been played in the hall in Fridingen from 1947 to 1960, work on the open-air stage began in 1960. The first piece on the program was Friedrich Schiller's Wilhelm Tell in 1963 . Since then, open-air theater performances have been held annually from June to September by the Fridingen cultural ring. Since 1977 there has been an association's own children and youth group, which performs a play for children every year parallel to the main play, in the first year this was The Robber Hotzenplotz by Otfried Preußler . Today the program of the natural stage Steintäle is complemented by an annual musical night and various concert performances. The construction of the open-air stage was done almost entirely by hand, as heavy construction machinery could not be used due to the narrow valley. First of all, a stage building and a temporary accommodation for players were built, in the first few years there were only 150 spectator seats, which were gradually expanded to the current capacity of 400 seats in the following years. In 1983 the power supply, which until then had been secured by a free current line, was buried and a telephone line was laid. There has only been a water connection since the 2000 season. The water pipe was laboriously dug in by hand by club members, according to the then board member Ernst Traub, each member had to "only dig three meters". Before that, the water for the stage had been carried up the mountain in cans. Now the building completed in 1980 with changing rooms and sanitary facilities could be connected to the water supply.
investment
The stage is located in a narrow valley above Fridingen, nestled between rocks and forests. The steep cliffs on the north side of the stage system form the foundation for the audience tiers - wooden benches that lie on steps carved into the rock. The south side is the stage, which is flanked by two permanently installed buildings that serve as backdrops. In the north-eastern part of the facility, there is another building with toilets, make-up and changing rooms in addition to the building for lighting and sound technology built in 2009. There is also a lounge for the actors. The stage is about 750 meters above sea level and thus more than 100 meters above the city of Fridingen. This difference in height has to be overcome by visitors to a large extent on foot, as the main parking facility is well below the stage. There are several disabled parking spaces above this parking lot so that the stage can also be reached by disabled people and older visitors. Wheelchair users are given a covered seat in the lighting building with the best view of the stage. Since there is no other roofing over the spectator area, events are repeatedly broken off or even canceled due to the weather, so that rarely all of the 25 to 30 scheduled dates per season can take place.
