The Butterberggelände nature reserve is a nature reserve on the northern outskirts of Bad Harzburg . It encompasses the ridge area of ​​the Butterberg and is accessible via the Butterberg-Kammweg , which leads from the Bad Harzburg - Ilsenburg exit to the Bad Harzburg - Westerode exit . The NSG is only approx. 50 m wide, but extends over a length of approx. 2.3 km.

The Butterberg is overgrown with a pearl grass beech forest, mainly sycamore maple , beech and ash . In Verjüngsbereichen the book by ash, is elm trees and mountains , field and maple displaced. Furthermore, the butter mountain has a species-rich herb layer: In addition to liverwort , wood anemone and yellow anemone and hollow lark's spur , the high cowslip is present. Because of the close proximity to the gardens of the Bad Harzburg properties, the common columbine and the snowdrop have also settled here, although they would not naturally occur here. The population of dandelions has also increased, since the small forest area is exposed to a large amount of nutrients (especially nitrogen) in contrast to larger forest areas.
