The nature reserve Schlackenhalde Bredelem is a nature reserve located on the bank of the Innerste north of the town of Langelsheim in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony . It borders on the Mittleres Innerstetal nature reserve with Kanstein and is part of the FFH area No. 121 ("Innerste-Aue (with Kahnstein)") and the EU bird sanctuary "Innerstetal from Langelsheim to Groß Düngen". The district of Goslar is responsible as the lower nature conservation authority for the nature reserve established on April 16, 1976 according to an ordinance of March 15, 1976.
The nature reserve comprises an approximately 450 m long and 20 to 90 m wide dump with ore slag residues from ironworks from the Middle Ages. The river gravel enriched with heavy metal salts offers ideal living conditions for different types of lichen and heavy metal lawns . The nature reserve was designated in 1976 to protect this plant community , which is extremely rare in Lower Saxony .
