The Okertal south of Vienenburg is a nature reserve in the area of the Lower Saxon cities of Goslar and Bad Harzburg in the Goslar district .
General
The nature reserve with the sign NSG BR 127 is 205 hectares in size. It is part of the EU bird sanctuary "Okertal south of Vienenburg". In the north it borders on the nature reserve " Okertal ", in the south-west on the nature reserve " Vienenburger Kiesteiche ". The area has been a nature reserve since December 6, 2007. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Goslar.

The nature reserve is located southwest of Vienenburg . It provides substantial parts of Okersteinfeldes in the former flood and sediment deposition area of Oker in resin foreshore under protection. The Okersteinfeld is today characterized by a large number of differently sized and structured mining waters, some of which were still used. The course of the Oker river in this area is mostly channel-like and only has a dynamic and branched course in the southern area of the nature reserve over a length of around 850 meters with side channels and flood troughs, gravel and gravel banks and near-natural bank areas .
The dismantling waters are characterized by open water areas and different bank formation. In part, reed areas and Verlandungs zones to find. High perennial and ruderal corridors border the extraction water , in places with woody succession stages .
The nature reserve offers endangered bird species, in particular water-bound breeding and guest bird species , a suitable habitat, including the value-determining bird species middle saw and kingfisher , both of which occur as breeding birds in the nature reserve. Furthermore come u. a. Crested grebe , little grebe , marsh harrier , red kite , black kite , eagle owl , backed Shrike , Golden Oriole and Nightingale ago. The near-natural, southern section of the river is u. a. Habitat for otters as well as various insects such as dragonflies , grasshoppers and stone flies .
In addition to preserving the habitats for threatened animal and plant species, the aim of the protection is also the near-natural development of the area, which also includes the more natural development of the straightened section of the Oker river.
The nature reserve borders on federal highway 241 to the west and north, in parts to the east on state road 518 and to the south on county road 25. Several paths run through the area.
