The rubble dumps on Rammelsberg are a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony city of Goslar in the Goslar district .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 058 is 18.5 hectares in size. It has been under nature protection since November 16, 1983. The reserve was initially around 18 hectares and was expanded in 1990 to its current size of 18.5 hectares. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Goslar.
The nature reserve is located south of Goslar in the Harz nature park, and provides the scree slope of the former ore mine at Rammelsberg and adjacent forest areas under protection. As an extreme location, the dump is populated by numerous lichens , including species that can survive on rock containing heavy metals . A specialty is the lichen Lecidea ullrichii , discovered in 1982 by the Goslar lichen researcher Hans Ullrich , which occurs exclusively here.
As the rubble dump became increasingly bushy and the development of vegetation would have displaced the lichen population in the medium to long term, the area was de-puss in 1999 .
