The Hummelsbütteler Moore nature reserve is located in the Hamburg district of Hummelsbüttel near the border with Schleswig-Holstein . The site received its protection status on January 8, 2008, making it one of the younger nature reserves in Hamburg.
Today it is looked after by the Hamburg Botanical Association and the Loki Schmidt Foundation .
description
The area is about 61 hectares and consists of wet moor meadows, quarry forest, small bodies of water and hedgerows. It connects the two small spring bogs, Hüsermoor and Ohlkuhlenmoor , which have been under protection for a long time, with parts of the Susebek lowland in the Hummelsbütteler Feldmark. There are no publicly accessible paths in the entire, roughly L-shaped area, as the available areas are too small and sensitive. The two small moors are now in the stage of a transitional moors and represent the main source area of the Susebek. They must be kept open by maintenance measures, otherwise they would soon be covered by forest.
Hüsermoor and Ohlkuhlenmoor are formations from the Saale Ice Age , which were probably created by melting dead ice . Its relief is very blurred today, as it was significantly changed by the subsequent Vistula Ice Age .
The birch forests and wet moor meadows are characteristic of the landscape . Here come Yellow bog lily , sphagnum mosses , sundews , bell heather and cotton grass before. There are many animal species in the area that are typical for grassland in northern Germany, but also a number of rare species. Of these, common snipe , marsh warbler , moor frog , mountain lizard and some endangered dragonfly species are remarkable.
Problematic for the protection of the area is the proximity to the settlement areas of Hummelsbüttel in the east and south, the busy Glashütte Landstrasse in the west and the former mountains of rubbish in the north. In addition, the nutrient input from the surrounding areas, which are still used for agriculture, represents the greatest threat to the peat bogs.
Large parts of the areas bordering the nature reserve belong to the Hummelsbütteler Feldmark / Alstertal nature reserve . To the west, about half a kilometer away, is the Raakmoor nature reserve .
