Wacholderheide nature reserve near Wettmarsen
The 4.2 hectare large nature reserve Wacholderheide in betting Marsi is located north of betting Marsi in the city of Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia Hochsauerlandkreis in Germany .
It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1998 with the Arnsberg landscape plan.
Area description
The NSG is a poor pasture on a slope exposed to the south. On the poor pasture there are individual junipers , individual deeply branched Hude oaks, hedges and bushes. The hedges and bushes consist of thorn bushes with sloe and hawthorn.
The landscape plan explains the area: "Lean pasture and rare juniper stands make the area a culturally, historically and ecologically valuable habitat that is particularly worthy of protection for rare and endangered plant species."
Protection purpose
The NSG is intended to protect the grassland area and heath with species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
