Stemmwegiepen nature reserve

The nature reserve Stemmwegiepen with a size of 45.5  hectares is located north of Niedereimer in the urban area of Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1998 with the Arnsberg landscape plan. The Breitenbruch-Neuhaus nature reserve borders directly to the east .

Area description

In the NSG it concerns the source streams Stemmwegiepen. The brook and the floodplain belong to the NSG. The floodplain is usually planted with alders. A pond and wet meadow areas are also part of the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the Stemmwegsiepen and floodplain with species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
