The nature reserve Waldreservat Obereimer lies west of Arnsberg - Obereimer in the Hochsauerlandkreis . It has a size of 547.9 ha . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1998 with the Arnsberg landscape plan. The NSG consists of a large northern area and a smaller southern area. The southern area is separated from the northern part by the Seufzertal nature reserve . The Spreiberg nature reserve connects directly to the north . The northern part of the NSG is only cut through by a country road that leads from Müschede into the Seufzertal. The southern area is uncut, but is separated from the northern area in the NSG Seufzertal with the road to Wennigloh .

The entire NSG belongs to the FFH area Obereimer Forest Reserve. Three parts of the NSG are designated as wilderness areas. These are the wilderness area Waldreservat Obereimer Forest District Obereimer 2 Herbremen-West (number: WG-HSK-0004-02), Wilderness Area Waldreservat Obereimer Forest District Obereimer 3 Herbremen-Ost (number: WG-HSK-0004-03) and Wilderness Area Forest Reserve Obereimer Forest District Obereimer 4 Markusberg (number: WG-HSK-0004-04). No forest use is made in the wilderness area. There is also the designated Herbremen natural forest cell (number: NWZ-017), which is also no longer used for forest purposes.

description

In the middle of the NSG are the non-NSG areas around the former Capune farm and parts of the Obereimer teaching and experimental forestry office, formerly the Obereimer forestry office. The Forestry and Experimental Forestry Office of the State Office for Forest and Wood NRW operates a youth forest home there.

The NSG consists only of forest, with the exception of small grassland. The forest consists mainly of beeches . There are also areas with oak, pine, larch and spruce. These and some other tree species are often found in mixed stands.

Protection purpose

The NSG was designated to protect the large, almost uncut forest area there. The NSG is of national importance as a habitat for threatened animal and plant species. In terms of animal species, it is particularly important because of the cave breeders and bats in woodpecker burrows, the mollusks and the aquatic insects.
