Kerbtal nature reserve on Werdenberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Kerbtal am Werdenberg with a size of 6.8  hectares lies between Sundern - Hachen and Wennigloh in the urban area of Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1998 with the Arnsberg landscape plan.

Area description

The NSG is the local Kerbtal with Bachaue . The floodplain is mostly planted with alders and ash trees. An area with pastures and hedges west of Gut Bönkhausen in a trough-like area belongs to the NSG. The stream there then runs in a narrow, steep-walled Kerbtal valley to the north. The valley floor is planted with mixed deciduous forest, mostly alder. The valley slopes outside the NSG are almost exclusively planted with spruce. A near-natural, in places slightly meandering stream flows on the valley floor. In the grassland, too, the stream is accompanied by trees, which continue as rows of trees on the edges of the meadows. The southern meadow area is more humid and still has several waterlogging areas, both near the stream and scattered over the meadow area.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the Kerbtal with species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
