description

Appearance, wood, bark and leaf

Nectandra coriacea grows as a small tree with heights of 6 to 9 or 10 meters and trunk diameters of rarely more than 0.2 meters. The wood of Nectandra coriacea is heavy and hard. The heartwood is dark brown and the thick sapwood is light yellow. There are thin medullary rays and evenly distributed vessels. The slender branches form a round, narrow treetop . The bark is dark red-brown and has many outgrowths. In the terminal bud, the bud scales do not overlap like roof tiles.

The alternate leaves arranged on the branches are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The simple, leathery, bare leaf blade is 7 to 12 centimeters long and 2 to 4 centimeters narrow- elliptical with a pointed blade base and a pointed upper end. The leaf margin is entire . The leaves are light green when young and later dark green, with the underside of the leaves being pale.
