Nemanja Protić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Немања Протић ; born August 13, 1986 in Čačak , SR Serbia ) is a Serbian basketball player . In addition to clubs in his Serbian homeland, Protić has played for clubs from Ukraine , Russia , Turkey and Bulgaria . In the basketball Bundesliga 2010/11 Protić also played briefly for the German first division club EWE Baskets Oldenburg. Since the end of 2013 Protić has been playing for the Montenegrin series champion KK Budućnost from Podgorica.

Career

The native of Čačak, where many well-known Serbian basketball players, led by Dragan Kićanović and Željko Obradović , were born, Protić started his career at the local club KK Borac. After the 2005/06 season he moved to the Serbian capital Belgrade to join the ABA League winner FMP Železnik, with whom he won the Serbian Cup in 2007. In 2009 he won the gold medal with the Serbian student selection at the Summer Universiade 2009 in Belgrade. After the 2009/10 season, in which FMP Železnik once again reached and lost the national cup final, the Bosnian- Serbian coach Predrag Krunić brought him to the German basketball league for the EWE Baskets from Oldenburg . In the German champions of 2009, however, Protić could not prevail and his contract was terminated prematurely in December 2010.

Protić then moved to the Basketball Superliga Ukraine , where he played for three months until mid-February 2011 with Chimik from Yuzhna , before moving to Russia at the end of the season to the club from Nizhny Novgorod , where he subsequently joined his compatriots Ivan Paunić and Boban Marjanović played together. In the 2011/12 season they reached the round of 16 or the round of the best 16 teams in the international competitions EuroChallenge 2011/12 and VTB United League 2011/12 , but in the national PBL 2011/12 it was only enough after only three victories of the season ninth and penultimate place in the table. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season Protić played in the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi for Olin from Edirne . After three missions at the beginning of the season, he left the club and was replaced by his compatriot Branislav Ratkovica . In February 2013 Protić had four missions for his home club KK Borac in the Košarkaška liga Srbije . At the end of the season he played together with his compatriots Marko Marinović and Mladen Pantić at Levski Sofia in Bulgaria. In the Balkan League they lost the final against Hapoel Gilboa Galil and also in the national championship it was only enough for the runner-up after the lost play-off final series against local rivals and defending champions Lukoil Akademik Sofia .

In the 2013/14 season Protić played with his parent club KK Borac in the Serbian league until mid-December 2013, before moving to KK Budućnost from Podgorica , who is also represented as a Montenegrin series champion in the ABA league and in the 2013/14 Eurocup .
