New Schadow
Neu Schadow ( Nowy Škódow in Lower Sorbian ) is a district of the Märkische Heide municipality in the Dahme-Spreewald district of Brandenburg . It has 180 inhabitants, the area is 0.225 km².
history
It was founded in 1747 by Frederick the Great , who settled colonists from the Palatinate and Salzburg regions. Neu Schadow and the neighboring Hohenbrück formed the municipality of Hohenbrück-Neu Schadow, which was incorporated into the municipality of Märkische Heide in 2003.
geography
Neu Schadow extends on the edge of the Spreewald on an area of 22.5 hectares, surrounded by agricultural land and coniferous forests. The location belongs to the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve .
Attractions
In addition to the Neu Schadow village church , a brick church from 1856, the Kolonistenhöfe, built around 1750 at Dorfstrasse 16 and 17, are under monument protection. A boulder on the village green commemorates the founding of the village by Friedrich II.
Personalities
The theologian and spiritual writer Otto Riemann (1850–1928) worked as a preacher at the Neu Schadow village church from 1876 to 1879.
