Krugau ( Dubrawa in Lower Sorbian ) is a district of the Märkische Heide community in the Dahme-Spreewald district of Brandenburg .

Location and accessibility

Krugau is located about twelve kilometers northeast of Lübben on the state road 443 and six kilometers east of Schlepzig .

The approximately 250 km long cucumber cycle path runs directly through Krugau, past the Krugauer See, the field stone church and the Spreewald barracks .

On the outskirts is the former Krugau train station, the Niederlausitzer Eisenbahn . The route is active today from Lübben to the high moor in the Krugau Forest, but is no longer used.

Directly south is the legendary 60 meter (110 m above sea level) high Marienberg. In addition to a monk's cemetery, there was also a Marienquelle and a chapel on the mountain top. In addition, monks are said to have used the Marienberg to grow wine.

history

Krugau was first mentioned in a document as Cruge towards the end of the 14th century .

Culture and sights

Spreewald barracks

To the east of Krugau is the so-called Spreewaldkaserne, a medical supplies warehouse of the Bundeswehr . During the Second World War, there was an armored equipment office and an army ammunition depot on the site . In the forest area southeast of today's barracks there are still remnants of the MUNA Krugau, which has a track network of almost 17 kilometers. In the later GDR , the NVA was stationed at the location.
