history

The first known mentions of the place in old documents come from the years 1364 and 1365. With these documents Neudorf was awarded by the Lords of Lißberg to the Lords of Johann Forstmeister von Gelnhausen .

In the Middle Ages, the villages: Neudorf, Aufenau , Kinzighausen and the Hain (near Wächtersbach), which later burned down in the Thirty Years' War , formed a separate, imperial territory , with the seat of government in Kinzighausen. The lordship was owned by the forestry masters von Gelnhausen, with their headquarters in Gelnhausen Castle . The forest masters were an old ministerial family who "held the office of Reich forest master in the Büdinger Forest for almost the entire Middle Ages ". They sold this right on June 10, 1484 to Count Ludwig II. Von Ysenburg and Büdingen. This small rule came to an end in 1787 when it was sold to the Archbishop of Mainz. It then passed, in rapid succession, to the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt , the Kingdom of Bavaria and finally to the Electorate of Hesse . In Kinzighausen there was the former castle of the barons von Forstmeister, with an old paper mill . Nothing can be seen of the former castle, also known as the Blue Wonder , but parts of the old paper mill are still preserved. However, the building is now used for residential purposes. Another memory of the forest masters von Gelnhausen is the wolf rod, an old hunting device that they featured in their coat of arms. The Wolfsangel was later included in the coat of arms of Aufenau (here it is present twice: on the shield and in the helmet decoration ) and also in the city coat of arms of Wächtersbach.

On December 31, 1970 Neudorf was incorporated into the town of Wächtersbach on a voluntary basis as part of the regional reform in Hesse, together with Hesseldorf , Weilers and Wittgenborn .

From 2010 to 2018, Neudorf, together with the two other Wächtersbach districts Weilers and Hesseldorf, received funding from the Hessian state government as part of village renewal.
