history

Neuendorf seen from the water

Neuendorf has always been part of the town (rule, community) of Putbus. The oldest settlements were on the so-called triangle (Groß Niendorp) and later further east at the mouth of the Hohlbach (Klein Niendorp). The Swedish registration record from 1694 shows 6 full farmers and 4 kossaten farms . For centuries, Neuendorf was Putbus's legal landing point, the princely chronicle speaks of the “Neuendorfer Hafen” in 1805, which fell into disrepair after 1834 due to the construction of the princely landing stage in today's Lauterbach . Remains of the 80 m long stone bridge can be seen in the water east of the mouth of the Hohlbach.

According to Grümbke (1819), “the bathing area of the new Putbusser Seebadeanstalt with four bathing carriages for women and canvas tents for 'men' was opened on Neuendorfer Strand in the summer of 1816”. This made Neuendorf the first seaside resort on Rügen two years before the foundation stone was laid (August 3, 1818) for the Friedrich Wilhelm baths on the Goor .

After 1815, the fishing industry continued to develop rapidly through the award of concessions. The constant threat from storm floods was contained in the 1930s, 1959 and 1989 by means of bank protection structures. Agriculture and fishing formed the economic backbone of the place for a long time. Until the beginning of the 20th century there was a notable tradition of boatmen. From 1839 to 1932 there was a primary school in Neuendorf , and from 1922 to 1946 a boat yard .

The tourism is one since about 1890 until today, an increasing source of income. From around 1950 there was again excessive building activity (development of gaps), which continues to this day.

The entire central district offers an unobstructed view of the island of Vilm, 3 km away .

Infrastructure

There is a natural beach on the western edge of the village. Commercial activities have increasingly migrated.

Nature reserves

The nature reserve Wreechener See is 2 km southwest and the nature reserve Goor-Muglitz: Freetzer Niederung and Goor 2 km east of Neuendorf. On the beach there is a pollarded willow avenue laid out in 1908.
