Neuropeltis is a plant genus of the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The approximately 14 species are common in western Africa and Asia .

description

Neuropeltis species are woody lianas . The alternately arranged leaves are divided into petioles and leaf blades . The parchment-like or leathery one is simple and the leaf margin is entire.

The lateral inflorescences are racemose or almost panicle-shaped towards the end of the inflorescence . The bracts are initially very small, but one of the bracts increases in size as the fruit ripens, is then paper-like and clearly veined like a network. The bracts are tiny.

The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are almost the same size. The crown is white or reddish in color, wheel-shaped or broadly bell-shaped and deeply lobed. The five stamens are fused with the base of the corolla tube and can protrude beyond the corolla. There are five stamens . The stamens can be finely hairy at the base . The pollen grains are not prickly. The ovary is divided into two chambers, whereby the chamber wall cannot be fully developed. Each chamber contains two ovules . The two short styles stand free from each other and have more or less lobed, shield-shaped or kidney-shaped scars .

The relatively small, hairless capsule fruits open via four flaps and contain a single seed. The seeds are spherical, smooth and hairless.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Neuropeltis was established in 1824 by Nathaniel Wallich . The type species is Neuropeltis racemosa Wall.

Within the Convolvulaceae , the genus Neuropeltis is provisionally classified in the tribe of Cresseae according to molecular biological knowledge .

Around ten Neuropeltis species are found in western Africa , the remaining species are found in Asia .

There have been around 14 species in the genus Neuropeltis since 2014:
