Neverwinter is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Cryptic Studios in the world Forgotten Realms of the role-playing rules Dungeons & Dragons (D&D).

scenario

There is no direct reference to the titles Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 developed by BioWare and Obsidian Entertainment . However, many Forgotten Realms D&D elements remain, such as: B. Places like Luskan, Niewinter, Tiefwasser, Baldur's Gate, Amn etc. Neverwinter begins about 100 years after the events of that series of titles.

development

Atari announced on August 23, 2010 for the fourth quarter of 2011 a new MMORPG based on the D&D universe in the region of the city of Neverwinter. After Cryptic Studios was bought by Perfect World Entertainment, the business model was redesigned to a Free2Play -MMORPG. The lawful implementation of the D & D rules is from the Wizards of the Coast of Hasbro monitored group. Neverwinter's ClosedBeta tests ran February 8 through April 15; The publication date (OpenBeta) was April 30, 2013, 6:00 p.m. CEST (up to five days earlier for start-up package buyers).

The open beta phase was not yet over (official start: June 20, 2013) when Perfect World announced the 1st expansion with the name Fury of the Feywild on June 6, 2013 .

For the official launch of the MMORPG Neverwinter on June 20, 2013, Perfect World expanded the game to include the new Gauntlgrym area , with new PvE and PvP content and the additional profession of alchemist.

The official date for the "Fury of the Feywild" expansion has now been set and was dated August 22, 2013 from official sources.

On August 1, 2013, Perfect World announced that it had reached the two million player mark.

Neverwinter was released on March 31, 2015 as a Free-2-Play title for XBox One for download in the store.

In June 2016, Perfect World Entertainment announced that it would bring Neverwinter to the PlayStation 4 as a Free-2-Play title with all expansions previously released. On July 12, 2016, the paid pre-release version for Playstation 4 appeared, which included a head start package with an extra experience bonus, a special mount and other extras. The free version appeared for free in the Playstation Store a week later.

Quest Editor Foundry

Neverwinter included a 3D Toolset ( The Foundry ) to create your own epic quest - campaigns , which publishes the world could be played and evaluated. Other players could reward the author of these quests with in-game currency on a voluntary basis, but in principle creating their own content and playing quests created in this way was free. The same graphic sets were available to the player to design their own quests as were used for the official main quests. The toolset was removed from the game on April 11, 2019, as no developer resources were available for further development.
