The Nicksmühle is located on the Neffelbach near Embken in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The mill has an overshot water wheel and a grinder . With a diameter of 8 m, it had the largest water wheel on the Neffelbach, making it one of the largest water wheels in the Rhineland. A pannier holds between 70 and 80 liters of water. The building was restored between 2013 and 2016 and can now be viewed again. The mill and water wheel are functional; however, the overshot mill wheel is primarily used to generate electricity. The house is used as a residential building.

Monument description

Nicksmühle, a three-sided courtyard, is located in the lowlands of the Neffelbach near Embken and is one of a series of mills in this region. The oldest buildings of the homestead are on the one hand the mill building, two-story quarry stone masonry, the grinder and the living area combined under one roof, on the other hand the stable, a half-timbered building on quarry stone plinth, both built in the 17th century. The barn was added later. The mill system is functional. The water is fed to the large overshoot millwheel via an upper ditch from the Neffelbach. The mill is a particularly impressive testimony to illustrate agricultural production processes and to illustrate past ways of working and living.

The mill was entered under No. 3 on January 12, 1983 in the list of monuments of the city of Nideggen . The Mühlengraben is entered in the list of monuments under the numbers 125, 127 and 130.
