Niewiadom ( German  Birkenau , Niewidiadom) is a district of the city of Rybnik in Poland .

history

The Noviedomie manor was here in the 14th century . One of the first owners in the 15th century was Václav Kropáč z Nevědomi. The estate was later owned by the first nobility of Larisch until 1795 . The manor districts of Nieder and Ober Niewiadom were renamed Birkenau in 1908 and were located in the local police district of Lentzberg. From 1818 to 1926 Niewiadom belonged to Rybnik County .

In 1792 the Hoym coal mine , named after Karl Georg Heinrich von Hoym (1739-1807), was founded between Niewiadom and Radlin . It was the first mine in the Rybnik coal district. In December 1870 the Hoym and Laura mines were merged and in 1882 the Carolus mine was connected. The Römergrube and the Beatens-Glück-Grube were founded in the middle of the 19th century .

After the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, the eastern part of the Rybnik District was ceded to the Second Polish Republic as East Upper Silesia . In September 1932 the Holm-Laura-Grube was renamed Kopania Ignacy , after Ignacy Jan Paderewski . The Ignacy coal mine (2671 employees in 1958) was closed in 1995 ( Kościuszko Shaft ) and is a historical object on the Route of Technical Monuments in the Silesian Voivodeship .

After the end of the war , Niewiadom was a place in the independent Gmina Niewiadom , which was incorporated into the city of Niedobczyce in 1955 . From 1946 to 1998 the city of Niedobczyce belonged to the Katowice Voivodeship .

With the incorporation in 1975 Niewiadom became a western district of the city of Rybnik and has been in the Silesian Voivodeship since 1999 .
