Nikolai Alexandrowitsch Riesenkampff ( Russian : Николай Александрович Ризенкампф; * August 24, 1832 ; † May 21, 1904 in Athens , buried in Piraeus ) was a Russian lieutenant general of German-Baltic descent.

Life

Nikolai Alexandrowitsch began his career as an officer in the Pavlovian Cadet Corps in 1854 and was transferred to the Caucasus as an ensign in the cavalry . He took there in 1854, 1859 and 1862 to 1864 on campaigns in part. 1858 he was promoted to lieutenant in 1860 to lieutenant and in 1862 the captain , the same year he took his service in the Life Guards Hussar - Regiment on. His next promotion to Rittmeister took place in 1864, at the same time he was assigned to the Caucasian commander-in-chief Grand Duke Michael Nikolayevich Romanov for special tasks . In April 1869 he was promoted to colonel and joined the 15th Drogunsky Tver Regiment. He received his first command from 1874 to 1880 as regimental commander of the 14th Dragoons- Malorossiisk Regiment. With simultaneous promotion to major general , he received in 1880 in command of the 2nd Brigade of the 1st Caucasian Cossack - Division , which he commanded more than eleven years. On July 10, 1891, he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the 5th Cavalry Division and promoted to Lieutenant General.

In 1892 there was a sharp dispute between General Nikolai Alexandrowitsch von Riesenkampff and the imperial adjutant General Alexander Pawlowitsch Swistunow as well as the commander of the 5th Army Corps and General of the Artillery , which ultimately led to the dismissal of the three generals because of insults and fistfights. Riesenkampff was on November 7, 1892 by the Tsar Alexander III. Dismissed from the Imperial Russian Army while retaining his rank . Nikolai A. von Riesenkampff quietly retired to Athens to live with his eldest daughter and died on May 8, 1904, he was buried in the Russian cemetery in Piraeus.

Origin and family

Nikolai v. R. came from the German-Baltic noble family Riesenkampff called Dehekampf . His ancestor, Gustav Reinhold Riesenkampff (1658–1689), founded the Russian-Polish line, which continued the name "Riesenkampff", while the Baltic line adopted the name " Rehekampff ".

His father was Colonel Alexander von Riesenkampff (Александр Евстафьевич Ризенкампф, * 1802), who lived in Tbilisi . Nikolai married Elisabeth Dobryansky, their descendants were:
