Niki Stein

Nikolaus Stein von Kamienski (born January 25, 1961 in Essen ) is a German director and screenwriter . He comes from a Polish-Prussian noble family .

He studied social and business communication at the Berlin University of the Arts and film directing with Hark Bohm and Alexander Mita at the University of Hamburg and the Hamburg Media School and won with his first short film Caution Sepp! 1984 the main prize at the European Short Film Festival.

He was best known for numerous crime scene productions. In addition to numerous Tatort episodes , he directed an episode of the radio play series Radio-Tatort . He was nominated five times for the Adolf Grimme Prize and three times for the " German Television Prize ". His film Die Quittung was awarded the “ German Television Prize ” for “Best Screenplay” in 2004. In 2010 he received the Bavarian TV Prize for writing and directing the film Until nothing remains . The film was also awarded the “North German Film Prize” and the “Prix d´Or” at the FIPA Festival in Biarritz.

In addition to his work as a screenwriter and film director, Niki Stein has also directed at the theater and directed radio plays. He also teaches at the International Film School Cologne and the Hamburg Media School.
