The Nikon D850 is a digital SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer Nikon . It is designed for professional use, was announced on July 25, 2017, the company's 100th anniversary, and has been available since September 7, 2017.

Specifications

The sensor is the first backside illuminated sensor built into a Nikon DSLR and has a resolution of 45.7 megapixels. The light sensitivity of the sensor can be set natively from ISO 64 to ISO 25,600 and in the extended range from ISO 32 to ISO 102,400. One rechargeable battery (manufacturer designation EN-EL15a ) is sufficient for 1840 pictures. The resolution of the camera's internal display is 2,359,000 screen points. The camera has an XQD and a UHS II-capable SD card slot for storing images and videos.

The autofocus system with 153 measuring fields and 99 cross-type sensors was adopted from the D5 and D500 models .

The camera's display can be tilted up and down and the camera can be fully controlled using the display's touch functionality. The display has tap to focus (the camera focuses where you touch the display), focus peaking (sharp image areas are highlighted in color). With the swiping and spreading movements that are common with smartphones , you can navigate and zoom through the recorded images and operate the camera menus.

The camera can automatically take a sequence of up to 300 photos one after the other, gradually shifting the focus of the lens from a starting point to infinity. These images are then put together by the camera through focus stacking to form a single image with a large depth of field.

The D850 makes video recordings in full 4K UHD resolution, in which the entire sensor surface is used.

The camera has a built-in WLAN module with a range of approx. 10 m via IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g. Originally, however, this could only be used via the Snapbridge app. After an open letter to Nikon initiated by photographer Gunther Wegner , this restriction was lifted with a firmware update in May 2019 and WLAN connectivity was opened for third-party applications. With a WLAN adapter WT-7 , up to 200 m can be bridged. A data rate of up to 866.7 Mbit / s is achieved via IEEE 802.11ac.

The camera also has a Bluetooth adapter with specification 4.1 (Bluetooth Low Energy).

equipment

All Nikkor lenses from the Ai standard can be used on the camera .

The film digitizing adapter ES-2 fits the camera . It makes it possible to take negatives as photos so that you do not have to scan them.

With the MB-D18 grip , the EN-EL18b battery and the BL-5 battery compartment cover , which can be purchased separately , the camera achieves nine images per second.
