The Nikon D90 is a digital SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer Nikon . It was introduced to the market in September 2008 and was still being sold when the successor Nikon D7000 was already available.

technical features

The 12,3- Megapixel - Image Sensor delivers images with a maximum of 4288 × 2848 pixels. It has a size of 23.6 mm × 15.8 mm (manufacturer designation DX format ).

The camera also has a Live View function, an automatic sensor cleaning and a 3 -inch large LCD screen with a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels.

The film and image data are saved on an SD memory card .

Video recording

The camera can record videos in HD format with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels (24 full frames per second, maximum 5 minutes) in AVI format . For resolutions of 320 × 216 or 640 × 424, the maximum length per movie is 20 minutes.

The images are recorded line by line on the sensor, which is why the rolling shutter effect occurs.

With firmware 1.0, the aperture for video recording can be closed to a maximum of f / 8, but the aperture must be set before activating the live view mode.

GPS data

The camera enables a GPS receiver to be connected directly to the housing. With the market launch of the device, the GPS receiver Nikon GP-1 was introduced as an accessory, which enables the recording of the GPS data of a recording.

Press

The Nikon D90 was extensively discussed in the press before it was launched, and the trade press treated it as a modern middle class or as a competitor to models from third-party manufacturers. The new option for video recording in HD format at the time of its introduction in this class was emphasized many times as a special feature.

Individual evidence

  1. Nikon (among other manufacturers) counts the subpixels of each pixel, i.e. H. the red, green and blue channels of each pixel individually, and therefore specifies the rear display with 307,200 [pixels] × 3 [colors] = 921,600 or approx. 921,000 pixels.
