The Nikon D7100 is a digital SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer Nikon , which was launched on the market in March 2013.

technical features

The 24,1- Megapixel - Image Sensor delivers images with a maximum of 6000 × 4000 pixels. It has a size of 23.5 mm × 15.6 mm (manufacturer designation DX format ).

The autofocus system (manufacturer's name Multi-CAM 3500 FX ) has 51 focus areas, 15 of which are cross-type sensors . The images are saved in the manufacturer's own raw data format NEF with 12 or 14 bit color depth or in JPEG format. Two SDXC card slots are available for this. The use of two memory cards can be configured differently ( backup , JPEG and NEF separately, as well as redundant data storage).

Lenses without CPU control can be used on the camera in manual mode and with automatic aperture control.

In contrast to the previous Nikon D7000 model, the rear display has a diagonal of 3.2 inches (81.3 mm) and a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels with 4 subpixels (RGBW) each and thus has 1,228,800 points. This results in a calculated point density of 250 ppi. The Expeed 3 model is used as the image processor in the camera .

1.3 × crop mode

The camera has a 1.3 × crop mode (focal length extension, based on the DX format - a total of 1.95 × based on the 35mm format), which limits the sensor area used to approx. 18 mm × 12 mm. Video recordings in Live View mode with frame rates of 50i and 60i (with Full HD ) are only possible in this mode . The frame rate when taking photos then increases to seven frames per second. Another advantage of this mode is the better coverage of the image area with auto focus areas. However, it does not offer an advantage in terms of magnification compared to a normal DX recording; a subsequent digital crop would produce the same qualitative result.

equipment

The camera has a combined accessory socket on the side. In addition to a remote release, other accessories can also be connected.

On the one hand, the camera can be supplemented with a WLAN interface using the WU-1a adapter . About iOS - and Android - smartphones is such a control of the camera possible.

On the other hand, GPS receivers can be connected for geotagging the photos inside the camera . Longitude and latitude as well as the height are written directly into the image files. The manufacturer offers the Geotagger GP-1 for this. Although the manufacturer's own GPS receiver has no built-in compass, the interface supports directional information ( heading ), which can also be used by products from third-party manufacturers.

With the optional MB-D15 battery grip, a separate shutter release and four-way rocker are also available in portrait format. The battery handle can also be equipped with a second rechargeable battery ( EN-EL15 ) or six standard AA batteries.
