The Nikon D5 is a digital SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer Nikon that was launched on the market in March 2016. It is designed for professional use.

technical features

General

As with the D500 presented at the same time , the camera's autofocus system has 153 measuring fields, 99 of which are cross-type sensors. A maximum of 55 measuring fields can be selected manually. The light sensitivity is up to ISO 102,400 and can be extended to ISO 3,280,000.

With 12 images per second or 14 images per second with the mirror folded up, 200 images in NEF format are stored in the internal memory before external memories are accessed.

With a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels with a pixel-perfect section of the image format, high-resolution 4K UHD films and 4K videos with 30p / 25p / 24p can be recorded. Full HD videos (1080p) are recorded with a frame rate of up to 50p / 60p.

As with the NIKON D4, it is saved on an XQD card. However, an alternative version with two CF cards (instead of the two XQD card slots) is available (CF type I, according to UDMA standard). Since the buffer performance is reduced compared to the XQD version, this variant will probably be of interest to photographers who still have large stocks of CF cards and who do not want extremely fast series shots.

The camera has a touchscreen display on the back.

Network connections

With the manufacturer's own WT-4 and WT-5 transmitter units , the camera supports data transmission via WLAN and Ethernet . An RJ-45 connection connects the camera to the Ethernet via cable, which enables various services (image transmission via FTP protocol, remote control via camera control, HTTP server or synchronized triggering of several cameras) in the LAN.

  2. Nikon (among other manufacturers) gives the sub-pixels instead of the number of pixels, i.e. H. counts the red, green and blue sub-pixels individually. The manufacturer therefore specifies the rear display with 786,432 [pixels] × 3 [colors] = 2,359,296 [sub-pixels] or approx. 2,359,000 points.
