The nonoproject is a project for schools in European regions. The name of the project goes back to the Italian composer Luigi Nono , who composed the choral work Il canto sospeso in 1956. Nono composed Il canto sospeso (Eng. Interrupted Singing ) on the basis of farewell letters from young people who were murdered by the National Socialists. Luigi Nono found the letters in the anthology Lettere di condannati a morte della Resistenza Europea .

initiative

The initiative to develop the nonoproject to film the composition Il canto sospeso as teaching material for young people and for schools in Europe came about in collaboration with Claudio Abbado when he took over the artistic direction of the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1990. Besides Claudio Abbado, Susanne Lothar , Bruno Ganz , Angelica Ippolito, Gian-Maria Volontè , Ben Kingsley , Pia Douwes and Umberto Eco also participate in the realization of the nono project .

Project sponsor / patronage

The Nonoprojekt is a non-profit teaching project of the Fondazione L'Unione Europea Berlin / IncontriEuropei for schools in Europe. Initially, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the former Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, took over the patronage of the nono project . On June 1, 2017, at the request of Hans Eichel , the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker took over the patronage of the foundation's nono project.

Project idea
