Norair Marti Rosso Petrovich Sissakjan ( Armenian Նորայր Մարտիրոսի Սիսակյան , Russian Норайр Мартиросович Сисакян ; born January 12 . Jul / 25. January  1907 . Greg in Ashtarak ; † 12. March 1966 in Moscow ) was an Armenian - Soviet biochemist , astrobiologist and university teachers .

Life

Sissakjan studied at the Moscow Timirjasew Academy of Agriculture with a degree in 1932. From 1935 he worked in the Institute of Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) (today AN Bach Institute for Biochemistry). In 1940 he received his doctorate in biological sciences . In addition to his research work at the Institute of Biochemistry, he taught as a professor at Moscow University (MGU) . He became known for his description of the chloroplasts as polyfunctional cell structures. He made a significant contribution to the Soviet space program . His research was one of the cornerstones of astrobiology .

From 1959 to 1963 Sissakjan was Academy Secretary of the Department of Biological Sciences of the AN-SSSR. In 1960 he became a member of the AN-SSSR and a member of the Presidium of the AN-SSSR. In 1963 he became chief science secretary of the executive committee of the AN-SSSR. In 1965 he became a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR .

In 1965, Sissakjan became Vice President of the International Academy of Astronautics . He was chairman of the Committee on Bioastronautics of the International Astronautics Federation . He participated in the Pugwash movement . In 1964 he was unanimously elected President of the 21st session of the UNESCO General Conference .

The physicist Alexei Norairowitsch Sissakjan was Sissakjan's son. The lunar crater Sisakyan was named after Sissakjan. A museum is dedicated to him in his hometown Ashtarak. In 2007, his birthday was included in the List of Notable Dates of UNESCO .
