Nordic World Ski Championships 1941 / Nordic Combined Men
At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1941 in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Italian province of Belluno , a competition in the Nordic Combined was held. The competition consisted of a cross-country skiing over 18 km and ski jumping from the K-70 - Schanze together.
The combined cross-country skiing was held on Wednesday, February 5, 1941 as part of the cross-country skiing over 18 km. The combined ski jumping of the newly built Trampolino Italia in the Zuel district took place on Thursday, February 6, 1941 in front of more than 10,000 spectators. According to various statements, up to 27 skiers took part in the competition, of which 22 were ultimately rated. The ski jumping facility was inaugurated by a number of special jumpers such as Sepp Bradl , Sepp Weiler and Randmod Sörensen , who went over the bakken as jumpers outside of the classification.
For the second time after Zakopane in 1939 , the Sudeten German Gustl Berauer won the title for Germany. After a race to catch up in the jump run, the Finn Pauli Salonen placed second, relegating the second German medal winner, the Tyrolean Josl Gstrein , to third place. Norway did not take part in the competition.
Walter Fux came ninth among the Swiss participants . The other participants were at the end of the list of results. Adi Gamma , who was in the promising third place after cross-country skiing, had to do without a combination jump after illness.
The first unofficial result lists of the combiners after cross-country skiing over 18 km, which were also printed in the newspapers, showed several incorrect times, which, adjusted in the official result list, left some athletes far behind. For example, the German Burk was only in the promising second place with the wrong running time of 1: 12: 33.0 and found itself in 15th place after the correction with the official running time of 1: 17: 20.0. Something similar was found with Murama and Russi.

Date: Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th February 1941
Venues: Cross-country skiing: Cortina d'Ampezzo ; Ski jumping: Trampolino Italia
Participants: 27 started; 22 rated;
The German participants Gustl Berauer and Hans Lahr came from the annexed Sudetenland ( Czechoslovakia ), Josl Gstrein from the connected Ostmark ( Austria ).
The five best combiners after cross-country skiing were Berauer ahead of Gstrein, Gamma, Salonen (in 1: 13: 25.1 on rank 32 in the overall classification of the 18 km) and Kraus.
Several thousands of spectators had come to jump, the diving tower was 48 m high and impressively demonstrated the acrobatics of ski jumping. The hill was in excellent condition, not a single participant fell. In addition to the judges' stands, there were also film and press stands and a large display board.
The jumping was dominated by the "old veteran" Sven Selånger , who was still in a class of its own. He achieved the maximum distance in both runs with 63 and 67 meters, which enabled him to improve from 22nd to 6th. Berauer practically only needed to stand his jumps halfway, he came to 56.5 and 57 m (a bit shaky on the second, but he held on) - and thus his superior victory was certain. Salonen succeeded in displacing Gstrein with 57 and 60 m, who came in at 57 and 58.5 m, each had a bit of reserve and, above all, had significant deficits in style. Lantschner jumped 61 and 60 m, Klotz 53 and 56 and Russi (known as a weak jumper) reached 47 and 49 m.
