North East England ( English for North East England is) one of the smallest of the nine regions of England . It is also sometimes called Northumbria .

This region includes the five Metropolitan Boroughs of Tyne and Wear and seven Unitary Authorities :

  3. Gateshead (Tyne and Wear)
  4. North Tyneside (Tyne and Wear)
