architecture

Exterior construction

The square bell tower is of a gabled roof covered. On its upper floor, narrow, pointed arched, coupled sound arcades open on all four sides . Far protruding buttresses support the outer walls. Under the roof approach a cornice proceeds with sculpted corbels .

inner space

The two-aisled nave is covered by a ribbed vault and opens into a recently closed choir in the east . The choir wall is broken up by pointed arched windows and a Romanesque round window. The vault ribs are supported by consoles carved with heads or rest on pillars with leaf and bud capitals . Capitals with figural scenes are rare.

Leaded glass window

Assumption Day

The Assumption of Mary is depicted on the central choir window, the Heavenly Jerusalem in the upper part . The window was manufactured in the Lorin workshop in Chartres in 1870 and bears the signature "LORIN". The two side windows were created by Louis-Victor Gesta and have the signature "LV GESTA TOULOUSE 1875". The four medallions depict the instruction and the Visitation of Mary as well as the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Holy Family in the carpenter's workshop. Most of the other windows are also signed by Louis-Victor Gesta. They depict the nun Margareta Maria Alacoque and her apparition of the Sacred Heart of Jesus , Joseph with a lily and the baby Jesus in his arms, the French King Louis the Saint with the crown of thorns in his hand and the apparition of Mary in Lourdes . John the Baptist can be seen on a window . Another window is dated 1877, in the oval medallions you can see the apostles Peter and Paul and the two martyrs Gervasius and Protasius .

Further equipment

  • To the right of the altar, a 15th century piscina is set into the wall. It is crowned by a three-pass arch framed by a triangular gable studded with crabs .
  • The holy water font is dated to the 15th century. It is carved from a block and has no decoration whatsoever. The octagonal basin, which rests on a simple column, probably originally served as a measure for grain. It took eight Litrons , an old French measure of volume that the liter gave his name.
  • The baptismal font dates from the 17th century. The oval basin is fluted , the base is decorated with garlands and foliage .

inscription

The crypt probably served as the tomb of the Arbouville family, who were the landlords of Boigneville from the 14th to 16th centuries . The coat of arms of the Arbouville family is carved on a vault keystone . In the crypt there is a grave slab with a relief of a woman. The inscription says that “Madame Marguerite”, once “Dame de Saint-Val”, who died in August 1310, was buried under her. The originally windowless room is illuminated by two small windows. One window is provided with lead glazing and the representation of the Assumption of Mary. It bears the signature "DUPIN à Versailles".
