reception

The film was released in South Korean cinemas on August 9, 2002. It was then shown at numerous festivals around the world, including on September 9, 2002 in the competition at the Venice International Film Festival .

ARTE described the film as a “fairytale-like, realistic drama” and said: “Lee Chang-dong tells an unusual, dreamlike and at the same time very realistic love story, which not only reminds of an Asian version of Leos Carax's LES AMANTS DU PONT NEUF because of its intensity .
