Loiben is a former municipality in Lower Austria with the districts Oberloiben and Unterloiben. In 1971 the community was merged with Dürnstein . It is located on the left bank of the Danube , southeast of Dürnstein.

Loiben has been an independent parish since 1379 and was founded by Tegernsee . The originally Gothic parish church in Unterloiben, which was expanded with two aisles in the 15th century , is consecrated to St. Quirin . The high altar picture shows the martyrdom of St. Quirinus and is a work by Kremser Schmidt from 1782.

In Oberloiben there is a monumental French monument that commemorates the victory of the Austro-Russian troops against the Napoleonic troops in the Battle of Dürnstein in 1805.
