history

Obermylau on the slope north of the older Mylau castle with the developing town below was named in 1431 as 1431: Obermelin . However, the irregular structure of the settlement suggests a Slavic origin. The manorial rule over the place was until the middle of the 19th century with the manor Mylau . In the 18th century the Vorwerk Obermylau is called, which was subordinate to the Mylau manor as an economic property. Today only the dilapidated manor house remains of the estate. The farm buildings have already been demolished.

Obermylau originally belonged to the Mylau lordship , which came to the Electoral Saxon Office of Plauen in the 16th century . The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office Plauen until 1856 . In 1856 he was affiliated with the Reichenbach court office and in 1875 with the Plauen administration . The industrial area near the train station Reichenbach (Vogtl) ob Bf , which emerged from the middle of the 19th century, also extended to Obermylauer Flur. Mechanical engineering and textile companies as well as residential buildings and villas were built on "Greizer Straße" on the land border with Reichenbach. During the GDR era, parts of the bicycle manufacturer Renak were located in Obermylau.

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Obermylau became part of Reichenbach in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Reichenbach from 1990 and became part of the Vogtland district in 1996. On January 1, 1996, Obermylau was incorporated into the city of Mylau. As a result of the merger of the towns of Mylau and Reichenbach in Vogtland, Obermylau has been a district of the large district town of Reichenbach in Vogtland since January 1, 2016.
