history

Historical view of the Brunn manor

Brunn was probably built around 1200 as part of Germany's eastward expansion when half a dozen farmers settled on the edge of a Slavic settlement. The original place was laid out as a loose square village with manor block corridor , the upper village on the road to Cunsdorf was not built until the 19th century. The place name is derived from "Brüne" or "Brunen", which means "barren, swampy land". Brunn was first mentioned in 1367, when Heinrich Reuss , Vogt von Plauen , the German Emperor and Bohemian King Karl IV. Sold the town of Reichenbach and the surrounding villages. Later, the place belonged to the Lords of Wolframsdorf auf Reuth , who sold it in 1496 to the electoral councilor and bailiff in Weimar , Caspar Metzsch auf Netzschkau .

The manor Brunn, which emerged from a Vorwerk , was first documented in 1583. It was owned by Carol Bose and his descendants between 1653 and 1780 . It then belonged again to the Metzsch family until the city of Reichenbach acquired it in 1911. From the 16th century onwards, the manorial power over Brunn was partly owned by the manors Brunn and Mylau . Brunn came in the 16th century with the rule of Mylau to the Electoral Saxon or later royal Saxon office of Plauen , to which the place was subject until 1856. Brunn was the northernmost place in the Vogtland district . In 1856 Brunn was affiliated to the Reichenbach court office and in 1875 to the Plauen administration .

Before 1836 the Brunner students went to school in Neumark. Since 1836 Brunn has formed a school district with the neighboring Cunsdorf. A joint school building was built on the corridor boundary near the old Brunner forestry department (later "Oberer Gasthof Brunn"). Due to the increased number of pupils, the Cunsdorfer built their first own school in 1882. In 1900, Brunn received a new school building in the center of the village. School operations in the Brunner School ceased in 1964. In the second half of the 19th century, the manor brewery, which was leased from August Jahn, was built. However, due to disputes with the manorial estate leaseholder, he gave up the lease around 1890 and built his own brewery together with his brother in the neighboring town of Cunsdorf. Between 1720 and 1907 Brunn owned a post mill , which had to be demolished after around 200 years due to a lightning strike. The “Windmühlenweg” reminds of them to this day.

In 1865, Brunn received a station on the Neumark – Greiz railway line with the station of the same name in the corridor of the neighboring town of Schönbach . After passenger traffic had ceased in 1997, the line was closed in 1999. The landing of the airship "LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin" on September 28, 1930, which was attended by thousands of spectators in the town, is considered the greatest event in the local history of Brunn . The “ Zeppelinweg ” and the “Reichenbacher Straße” in Brunn, which was renamed “ Dr.-Eckener- Straße” , still remind of this event . After the Second World War , the manor Brunn became public property as part of the land reform from 1945 onwards . After a fire in 1999, it was demolished three years later. As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Brunn became part of Reichenbach district in the Chemnitz district (renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Reichenbach from 1990 and became part of the Vogtland district in 1996.

On March 1, 1994, Brunn was incorporated into the town of Reichenbach in Vogtland. After 1990, the construction of private homes resulted in closed development in the village.
