Odomau ( Odamau , Oromau ) is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Maliana ( municipality of Bobonaro ).

Before the 2015 regional reform, Odomau had an area of ​​13.66 km². Now there are 14.41 km². The Suco is located north of the center of the Maliana Administrative Office. To the west of the Lale river , which belongs to the Lóis system , lies the Suco Tapo / Memo . In the north and east lies the Suco Ritabou , in the southeast Raifun and Lahomea and in the south Holsa .

The municipality capital Maliana extends from Lahomea into the southeast of the Sucos Odomau. The place Guenuha'an ( Genuhaan ) extends as a suburb of Maliana from Odomau into the Suco Holsa. The overland road that leads west from Maliana follows Odomau's southern border, dividing Guenuha'an between the two sucos. She goes over the Lale over a bridge. The overland road from Maliana to the north runs through Odomau in the extreme southeast. There are two primary schools in Suco, the Escola Primária 587 “São José” Odomau and the Escola Primaria Anahun .

The four Aldeias Anahun , Guenuha'an , Rai Maten and Rocon are located in Odomau . In contrast to this, according to the maps, the village of Anahun is clearly in the south of Sucos Ritabou , while there is no place with this name in Suco Odomau.

Residents

4501 people live in the Suco (2015), of which 2260 are men and 2241 women. The population density is 312.5 inhabitants / km². There are 741 households in the Suco. About 85% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. About 10% speak Kemak , less than 5 % speak Bunak and a small minority speak Tetum Terik .

history

During the civil war between FRETILIN and UDT in 1975, the residents of Odomau fled to the Indonesian West Timor and stayed there as refugees for nine months.

On September 9, 1999, during the unrest surrounding the independence referendum in East Timor, pro- independence advocates Avelino Tilman and Victor dos Santos were murdered by Indonesian soldiers and pro-Indonesian militiamen in Odomau .

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Salomão da Cruz elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected. In the 2016 elections , Cirilio Moniz Cirio-Bere won .
