Raifun ( tetum Rai Foun ; German  "New Land" , also Rai Fun ) is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Maliana ( municipality of Bobonaro ). In addition, two places in Suco bear this name.

The locations

In the east of the eastern part are the towns of Nunutana and Raifun ( Raefun , Raetun ). The towns of Dirumdesan and Raifun Vila ( Rai Foun Bila ) are located on the highway in the east of the western part . To the west of Dirumdesan is the Maliana airfield ( 8 ° 58 ′ 25 ″  S , 125 ° 13 ′ 5 ″  E ) with a helipad and the Maliana police station. There is a primary school in every part of Raifun. The elementary school in the east is in Nuntana. There has also been a community health center here since 2007 that cares for 3,000 people in the region. There is also a pre-school, the Escola Pre-Primaria Raifun , in the Suco .

The Suco has 1623 inhabitants (2015), 809 of whom are men and 814 women. The population density is 149.5 inhabitants / km². There are 256 households in the Suco. Almost 80% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. Another 20% speak Kemak and a small minority speak Habun .

Before the 2015 regional reform, Raifun had an area of ​​10.41 km². Now it is 10.86 km². The Suco is spread over two separate territories in the northeast of the Malianas administrative office. The eastern part is enclosed by the Suco Ritabou , except in the west, where the Suco Lahomea lies across the Buloho River . In the east, the Biabuil flows along part of the border. Both rivers belong to the system of the Lóis , but to the two different main arms. The Biabuil flows to the Marobo , the Buloho to the Nunura .

The western part of Raifun is also bounded by Suco Ritabou to the north and east. The eastern border is formed by Buloho, which comes from the other part of Raifun. In the west and south is the Suco Odomau , in the southwest of the Suco Lahomea. From the town of Maliana , an overland road leads north through the east of the area to Hatolia Vila .

In the Suco are the three Aldeias Nunutana ( Nuntana ), Raifun Foho ( German  Raifun Berg ) and Raifun Vila ( German  Raifun City ).

history

During the civil war between FRETILIN and UDT in 1975, around 500 Raifun residents fled to the mountains or to Haekesak in the Indonesian West Timor .

On September 2, 1999, two local UNAMET employees Ruben B. Soares and Domingos Pereira were murdered in Raifun by two Indonesian officers and the pro-Indonesian militia Dadarus Merah Putih . Of the ten people identified as perpetrators, only one was arrested and tried. The other nine had probably fled to West Timor.

politics

In the elections of 2004-2005 was Alberto Amaral Fernandes elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected. In the elections in 2016 won Domingos Salvador .
