content

On his deathbed, the consul and millionaire Jonathan Reynold asks his spoiled son Tobias to finally introduce him to his fiancée. But the sophisticated Gloria is nowhere to be found. In order to still fulfill his father's last wish, Tobias persuades the singer and cloakroom attendant Eva Schmidt, whom he has only just met by chance, to pretend to be his fiancée. Jonathan Reynold is delighted at the sight of the pretty and natural woman and falls asleep peacefully. But the next day the supposedly deceased wakes up surprisingly and, contrary to expectations, his spirits return. In order to spare the father, for better or worse, Tobias has to maintain the simulated scenario for the time being, and Eva has to continue playing her role. When Jonathan Reynold arranges a big party, the son has two problems: He cannot tell the frail father the truth, because his doctor, Dr. Stoker. On the other hand, Gloria doesn't just want to do without Tobias, but Eva also clearly likes her role.

A comedy of confusion unfolds until the consul learns Eva Schmidt's true identity. He tries everything so that Tobias realizes that Eva, as the chosen one, suits him much better. So he prevents Eva's departure to Schleswig and invites her to his preferred restaurant. At the sight of the samba dancing "seriously ill" consul, Dr. Stoker had a nervous breakdown . After Jonathan informs a press photographer that Eva is his future daughter-in-law and this message appears in a tabloid, Gloria and her mother leave Munich so that nothing stands in the way of Evas and Tobias' connection.

criticism

"Staged in the style of a mix-up, notable because of Heinz Rühmann's acting performance."

The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.
