Olie Brice (born June 8, 1981 in London ) is a British jazz and improvisation musician ( double bass , composition ).

Live and act

Brice is a self-taught musician . He studied history and sociology at Manchester University . He worked in the British jazz and improvisation scene from the late 2000s a. a. with Ingrid Laubrock ( Catatumbo , Babel 2010), Mikolaj Trzaska ( Riverloam Trio , 2011), Neil Metcalfe ( Brackish , 2011), Paul Dunmall ( Underground, Underground , Slam, 2015), Evan Parker , Tony Malaby , Steve Swell and Ken Vandermark ; He also belonged to the bands of Dee Byrne , Alex Ward , Mike Fletcher ( Nick of Time ), Nick Malcolm and Loz Speyer. With his Olie Brice Quintet , with whom he interprets his own compositions, he has so far released two albums, Immune to Clockwork (2014) and Day After Day (2017, with George Crowley, Mike Fletcher, Alex Bonney, Jeff Williams ). With Tobias Delius and Mark Sanders he forms the improvisation trio Somersaults Trio . In 2014 he recorded the duo album Of Tides with Achim Kaufmann and the live album At Iklectik with John Edwards .

Among the influences of his compositions are Brice old blues , Ornette Coleman , Albert Ayler , Wadada Leo Smith and the liturgical chants he sang in the synagogue as a child .
