An athlete from the state of Victoria , which at the time was a British colony and later belonged to Australia, participated for Australia in the Summer Olympics in Athens in Greece in 1896 . Although it was Edwin Flack was born in England and lived in London in 1896, but spent most of his life in Australia and is therefore by the International Olympic Committee counted as an Australian athlete.
Flack took part in a total of five competitions and won three medals. The bronze medal in tennis was won in mixed doubles and therefore does not count as a medal for Australia.
