final

Five of the six finalists (from left to right): Trebisonda Valla (ITA), Doris Eckert (DEU), Anni Steuer (DEU), Kitty ter Braake (NED) and Claudia Testoni (ITA)

August 6, 1936, 5.30 p.m.
Weather conditions: slightly cloudy, approx. 18 ° C, tail wind of 1.4 m / s.

Even before the final it was clear that it would be a very close race. And so it happened. The gold medal winner was the experienced Italian Trebisonda Valla, who was believed to have had the best of her career behind her. But she was in top shape to the minute. Silver went to the German Anni Steuer, completely surprisingly, at the German Championships with 12.3 seconds second behind Doris Eckert, who came in sixth here. The Canadian Elizabeth Taylor came third, ahead of Valla's compatriot Claudia Testoni.

The official times for the first four were all stopped with 11.7 s, which meant an Olympic record . The unofficial electronic measurement showed a difference of seven hundredths of a second between first and fourth place. Only the evaluation of the target photo provided information about the final order .

All three medalists won the first medals for their countries in this discipline.

For a better classification of the intervals, the unofficial electronically timed times are listed in the table below.
