The United Kingdom took part under the name Great Britain at the VII Winter Olympic Games in 1956 in the Italian municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo with a delegation of 41 athletes in five disciplines, including 31 men and 10 women. No athlete managed to win a medal.

The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was bobsleigh driver Stuart Parkinson .
