The short track competition for the men's 1000 meters at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang was held on February 13, 2018 and February 17, 2018 in the Gangneung Ice Arena and consisted of six heats and three semi-finals as well as an A and B final. A total of 32 starters from 14 nations took part in the competition.
The Canadian Samuel Girard won the gold medal after finishing second in the world championships over the 1500 meters in 2016 and 2017. John-Henry Krueger from the USA won the silver medal and Seo Yi-ra from South Korea the bronze medal. Neither from Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Liechtenstein was a participant at the start.

In the preliminary runs, the Canadian Charles Hamelin set a new Olympic record with a time of 1: 23.407 minutes. The Chinese Wu Dajing and the French Sébastien Lepape , who started in the same run as Hamelin, also beat the previous Olympic record.
