In the first half of the race, the Australian Blake and the American Frank were ahead. At about 25 km, Sherring took the lead and continuously expanded it to the finish. The Swede Svanberg overtook William Frank just before the stadium and secured second place.

  1. Kluge cites this performance as an existing world record, although the running distance apparently did not correspond to that of the marathon.
  2. In contrast to other sources, "Sports-Reference" gives times for the runners in 14th and 15th place. At Kluge, the field of those placed ends at Cormack, while Nejedlý is listed among the eliminated runners.
  3. Kluge only leads Pietri as a retired runner and lists all other participants marked here with "DNF" as AC (= "also ran").
