action
Artie Lewis and Stevie Diroma are New York City cops ; Lewis is married to Rita, who cannot have children. The widowed Diroma has three young daughters. Diroma is killed one day by a drug addict who takes a woman hostage - whom the policeman wants to save. Lewis and his wife then adopt the Diromas children.
With the family struggling financially, Lewis steals drug trafficker Beniamino Rios' money. With this money he finances a new house for the family, part of which is donated to an orphanage.
It turns out that Rios' girlfriend, Grace De Feliz, is an undercover investigator. She helps Lewis when he is kidnapped by Rios, which is followed by a showdown with a shootout. Rios is killed. Lewis in the end learns from his boss that he will not be prosecuted.
Reviews
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on May 3, 1991 that the film tries to shamelessly manipulate the emotions of the audience and goes too far in the process. He argues so shamelessly that the goal justifies the means that one wants to contradict it.
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was "an inconsistent product with a questionable tendency towards the moral legitimation of vigilante justice". It begins as a “predominantly sentimental film about personal relationships”, but another director could have directed its “bloody action finale”.
Awards
David Netter was nominated for the Young Artist Award in 1994.
backgrounds
The film was shot in Los Angeles and New York City . It grossed approximately $ 11.3 million in US cinemas .
