Oppelhain

Oppelhain is a district of the municipality of Rückersdorf in Elsterland the district Elbe-Elster in Brandenburg . Approx. 485 inhabitants (2003) live on an area of ​​17.4 km² .

location

Oppelhain is located in Niederlausitz in the middle of the "Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft" nature park, 2 km from the Berlin – Dresden railway line (Rückersdorf-Oppelhain station). From Bad Liebenwerda , Doberlug-Kirchhain or Finsterwalde , the place can be reached via a country road through the heath.

history

The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1297 . From that time until 1541 the village belonged to the Dobrilugk Monastery . Some historians assume that the name Oppelhain comes from the Slavic word opaliti , which would indicate a joint Germanic-Slavic settlement of the village.

In the Liebenwerdaer Heide one is in 1667 for the first time unlucky called hut from which the present-day district Oppel Hainer Pechhütte emerged.

After Oppelhain became Prussian in 1815, it came to the Finsterwalde district in the Cottbus district in 1952 .

In 1996, Brandenburg's Prime Minister Manfred Stolpe stayed in town to inaugurate the Oppelhain herb garden.

The municipality of Oppelhain lost its independence on December 31, 2001 and was incorporated into the municipality of Rückersdorf.
