Ortahisar is a municipality and a district in the Trabzon province of Turkey . The district corresponds to the former central district of the province. Since the provincial capital Trabzon has been a Büyükşehir belediyesi since 2014 , the name Trabzon is reserved for this metropolitan municipality. The municipality and district are identical in terms of area and population.
The district is located in the center of the province on the Black Sea . It borders on Yomra to the east, Maçka to the south, Akçaabat to the west , and the northern border forms the Black Sea coast with the provincial capital. The European route 70 runs along the coast , coming from the south the E 97 meets it in Trabzon . In parallel, the Değirmendere Çayı (also Kalyan Deresi ) flows north and flows into the sea in the east of the city.
The name refers to a district and hill in the urban area of Trabzon.
