Otto Wilhelm Christian von Schack

Otto Wilhelm Christian von Schack or Otto Wilhelm Christoph von Schack (* 1731 in Maastricht ; † January 6, 1781 in Stettin ) was chief of a Prussian free battalion (F 11) in the Seven Years War and later colonel and regimental commander .

Life

origin

His parents were the Dutch Lieutenant General Otto Friedrich von Schack (1670-1751) and his wife Levine Rebekka von Wintzingerode , daughter of the Kurmainz Major General Wasmuth Levin von Wintzingerode .

Military career

Schack became a horse-drawn cornet in Holland in 1752 . During the Seven Years' War he left the Dutch service and joined the Prussian army . There he was employed on December 29, 1759 (patent from May 29, 1759) as a captain and company commander in the free battalion (F 8) of Quintus Icilius . On December 26, 1760 he was promoted to major and received approval to form his own free battalion. With this he fought in the battles of Zorndorf , Hochkirch and Freiberg , also in the battles of Weissenburg, Hartmannsdorf and Freyberg. At the end of the war, the units were disbanded, but some were taken over into Prussian services. So Schack first came as a major in the Queis infantry regiment . He became lieutenant colonel on May 20, 1777 (patent dated June 2) and on May 20, 1773 colonel and regimental commander. He retired in 1780 and died on January 6, 1781 after being ill for five days.

He was married to the Dutch Charlotte Sophie von Pöllitz († June 24, 1804). The couple had the following children:
