history

The place was created in the 15th century at the latest. It was first mentioned in a document in 1421.

On a map of the Duchy of Teschen from 1736 by Johann-Wolfgang Wieland, the place was entered as Owschtitz . Originally the village belonged to the principality of Opava-Jägerndorf, after the Silesian Wars it came to the Prussian part of the principality. This was finally assigned to the Leobschütz district. The place was mentioned in 1784 in the book Beytrage for the description of Silesia as Owczi (t) z , belonged to a prince von Lichnowsky and was in the Leobschütz district. At that time he had 205 inhabitants, a Vorwerk , ten peasants, 22 gardeners and six Häusler. The inhabitants were Catholic and Polish-speaking. In 1865 Owschütz consisted of a manor and a community. The manor was owned by the prince. The Dedovichhof farm belonged to the estate. The Neudörfel colony belonged to the community . At that time the place had seven farms, two half-farmers, 15 gardeners and 16 cottages, as well as a saddler, two blacksmiths and two shoemakers. The school was in Pischcz, and its own school was under construction.

Owschütz remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . In 1936 the place was renamed Habergrund as part of a wave of renaming during the Nazi era . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Ratibor .

In 1945 the previously German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Owsiszcze . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. In 1975 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established powiat Raciborski and the Silesian Voivodeship.

A hand ax from the Paleolithic Age ( Acheuléen ) was discovered during archaeological excavations .
